For some reason, boating seems to go hand in hand with getting totally plastered. Nobody knows why this happens, but the water sports in Seattle seem to attract a pretty “hearty party” crowd. How many times have you gone to the lake and seen a bunch of elderly folks playing water polo? Yes, it's true that a lot of the action in the water is going to come from younger folks with time on their hands, disposable income, and a six pack of their favorite beer.

While not every water sport enthusiast is an alcoholic, every man or woman who drinks loves water sports. It’s kind of like the Star Trek/World of Warcraft theory: not every Star Trek fan plays World of Warcraft, but many World of Warcraft players are a Star Trek fans. Yeah.

While it’s easy to poke some fun at the water sports in Seattle, some water sport athletes do demonstrate a lot of raw talent.  Do you have what it takes to hit a wake at 25 mph and throw a couple flips? Probably not. If you do feel like taking on the waves, please be careful. Make sure that you have the camera on and the ambulence standing by before you try out some sick moves. OK, bro?

If you want to have fun on the water, make sure that you take a few buddies and rent the proper equipment. There are a lot of different ways to understand the world of water sporting, and most of them are legitimately exciting and fun for both amateurs and experts.

A new water sport in Seattle that’s becoming very popular is wake skating.  It’s like wakeboarding, but your feet are not strapped into bindings. A wake skate looks like a short, fat surfboard.  Wake skating is fun because you get the same rush as surfing, and your feet aren’t strapped into the board, so you can bail a little more gracefully than you can on a wakeboard. Ideally, you'll be able to just coast around like a swan on the water, but if you're an average person, you'll look more like a kitten that doesn't want to fall in the bathtub.

While some water sports in Seattle will definitely cost you a lot of money, some are cheap. Just share the cost of a boat, gas, and water sports equipment with a few friends. Enjoy some fun in the sun.  Just make sure you wear plenty of sun block so you don’t get fried.
