Complaints Against Labor Unions

It's fairly common to have complaints against Seattle labor unions. Even though they were established to protect the common worker, it can seem like their only focus seems to be consolidating their own power.

Most problems or complaints involving labor unions should be directed to the nearest National Labor Relations Board Regional Office (NLRB).

The NLRB oversees labor relations in the private sector and protects the rights of employees to form, join, or assist a labor organization. The NLRB also protects the right of employees to bargain collectively or to refrain from such activities.

Please note: The NLRB does not handle complaints regarding federal, state, and local government unions. Other forms of employment discrimination, such as those based on race, gender, or sex, issues regarding workplace safety, entitlement to overtime pay, or family and medical leave, are regulated by different federal and state statutes and agencies. These complaints are not handled by the NLRB.

Please access the NLRB Referral Guide to identify which agency can best assist you with your complaint.

General information about labor unions is also available.
