Houses for Sale by the Government
Who wouldn't want to live in a Seattle home sold by the government. Wait, don't walk away, these homes are perfectly fine, Richard Nixon never stepped anywhere near them so you don't have to be afraid. They are simply homes that the government holds the key to.
The HomeSales.gov web site provides information about single-family homes for sale by the U.S. federal government. These previously owned homes are for sale by public auction or other methods, depending on the property. Anyone can buy a home for sale, but you must work with a real estate agent, broker or servicing representative to submit an offer or bid.
Currently, the U.S. Departments of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), Agriculture (USDA) and Veterans Affairs (VA) have properties listed on the HomeSales.gov site. For information on how to buy them, please visit the How to Buy U.S. Government-owned Homes web page.
For additional information regarding property listings and contact information, please visit the Agency Contact Information web page.
In addition, HUD's Homes for Sale web page provides information on both single-family homes and multifamily properties that are available from several federal agencies. This web page links to homes for sale from the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC), the General Services Administration (GSA), the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) and more.
You may wish to access information on homes available specifically from HUD which include tips on how to buy a HUD home.
Finally, should you require additional assistance from HUD, you may contact one of their Housing Counseling Agencies.
