Financial Assistance with Home Repairs

Because it really isn't a repair unless you broke it first, the HUD and its Seattle friends can help you to fix it even better than it was before. And that's good, because you're likely to hear about it for years from your better half.

There are several agencies you may want to contact to find out what assistance may be available to assist with your home repairs.

Start by contacting the nearest Housing and Urban Development (HUD) office. Although HUD does not give cash assistance, they do offer programs for specific purposes, including making essential home repairs and assistance programs for energy efficiency improvements.

Also, contact your state housing finance agency. These offices may have information about state programs that might help you with essential repairs and additional community development programs.

Veterans

If you are a veteran, you may want to contact the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). The VA offers many programs designed to assist veterans.

Senior Citizens

If you are a senior citizen, you may want to contact the Administration on Aging's (AOA) Eldercare Locator. This is a free service that can connect you with resources and programs designed to assist seniors in your area.

Rural Residents

If you are a rural resident, you may want to contact the local Rural Development (RD) office. These offices can provide assistance to rural residents through the Rural Housing Service.

Disabled Citizens

If you are disabled, you may wish to contact your state rehabilitation service office. These offices may be able to assist with home modifications, such as adaptive or special household equipment.

Communities

If your state or local government is looking to rehabilitate your community, you may wish to view a list of Community and Economic Development Programs available through the Advisory Council on Historic Preservation. There are a variety of programs available including, rehabilitating affordable housing for low-income families, lead-based paint control and weatherizing.

More information on home improvements is also available.
