After you graduate in Seattle, leave school, or drop below half-time enrollment, you have a period of time before you have to begin repayment of your student loans. This "grace period" will be:
- six months for a Federal (FFEL) or Direct Stafford Loan.
- nine months for Federal Perkins Loans.
For information regarding the repayment of a student loan, such as loan consolidation, deferment, discharge and more, please visit the U.S. Department of Education (ED) web page on repaying federal student loans. Or, please call ED at 1-800-4-FED-AID (1-800-433-3243) or 1-319-337-5665.
For additional information regarding the repayment of a student loan, you are always best served to contact the loan originator when you have questions about loan repayment information. If you are unsure of who your loan originator is, please visit the National Student Loan Data System.
Information on programs set up to help students repay their student loans is also available through the Students.gov website.
Finally, student loan borrowers in default have numerous options available for repayment.
