Accessorizing in Seattle can be difficult. If you want to add style and class to an outfit, but are as clueless as I am, check out the information below.
Look At Your Outfit
What colors are you wearing? Neutrals? Pinks? Black and green? What style of clothing are you wearing? Is it girly? Tailored? Elegant? It’s important to consider your style when choosing accessories. It's best to make your clothes as tasteful and stylish as possible. Jeans should flatter your legs and backside. Skirts look best if they are as fun and colorful as your shirts, but simple black or white works, too.
Choose Your Accessories
Choose matching colors and a theme that goes well with your outfit.
Jewelry is the most basic accessory. If you're wearing neutral, plain colors, you can wear almost any color of jewelry. Choose one body part to focus on and stick with it. If you pick earrings, leave your neck bare (except for shimmer powder if you are so inclined). If you choose necklaces, you can wear dainty or clunky ones, but wear the tiniest, most understated earrings possible. Don’t wear several bracelets and rings at the same time. It will make your hands look cluttered.
Head accessories like hats, headbands, and hair ornaments can make your face shine. If you wear a hat it needs to go with your outfit! For instance, a straw hat would be cute with a gingham sundress, but it would look crazy with a red prom dress. Headbands are very versatile. If you’re wearing an evening outfit, try a rhinestone tiara. Clips or barrettes in your hair can be cute, but don’t wear them too often. Make sure you wash any often-used hair accessories at least every other day, especially if you have dandruff.
Belts are a cute way of accessorizing yourself while keeping your pants up. You can find belts in any style: thick and thin, in all colors and materials. A belt is nice if your shirt is short enough to be visible or it is tucked in. Photos of pregnant celebrities often show a maxi dress with a wide belt between the bulge and the bust. This is a great fashion idea - if you want people to notice that you're pregnant.
Scarves are great in any season. If it’s winter or fall, choose a nice thick one, but if it's summer or spring, go with a thin one.
Handbags are nifty containers to hold your things. Big totes in metallic copper, silver and gold colors are very "in," as are patchwork and quilted bags. Only carry one at a time.
You probably don’t want to wear all these things at the same time. You want people to notice you, not all the junk you're lugging around. Go for the chic look, not the “eek!” look.
Here are some quick fashion tips:
- You don't have to spend like crazy to get great jewelry!
- You can buy accessories, purses, and more at Claire's, Discovery, Icing, or any drugstore or department stores like Eckerd's and Target.
- Try making your jewelry accent your clothing. For example, if you are wearing blue jeans and a blue and purple striped shirt, then you should accent with purple.
- Dress to flatter your body. Be honest with yourself.
- If everything in life matched, it would be boring.
- Denim looks great with sweaters!
- Compliment patterns with solids. If you're wearing patterned clothes, then choose solid-colored accessories, and vice versa.
- Sunglasses look cool and help protect your eyes.
Remember that your number one accessory should be your personality. You want people to like you, not your clothes. Shine on!
