Travel Overseas - Spring Break

So your Baie-Comeau kid wants to spend your money Spring Breaking overseas, isn't that special! Well, if you're going to fund such an endeavor, you better do some research first, to save you a ton of hassle afterwards.

Every year, a large number of students enjoy a vacation abroad during their Spring Break. Please be aware that international travel requires the traveler to hold a valid passport. Travelers who currently do not have a passport, or whose current passport is close to/already expired, must obtain one or renew it as soon as possible to ensure it is received in time.

The United States Department of State (DOS) and its Bureau of Consular Affairs (CA) offer a number of recommendations to help travelers, including vacationing students, avoid the many mishaps that can turn a Spring Break vacation into a nightmare. The primary recommendation is for travelers to either use the Internet Based Registration Service (IBRS) to register their trip online, or contact the U.S. Embassy or Consulate in the country being visited for the same purpose. Another recommendation is for travelers to review the country's entry requirements, as an entry visa may be required. Such visas are generally obtained through the country's embassy or consulate. Entry requirements may be found in the Country Specific Information (CSI) documents for each country published by the DOS, or through the country's embassy or consulate.

The DOS also has a number of additional articles that may be of interest to Spring Break vacationers:
