Recreational Activities - Fishing
Fishing is awesome, and there are so many places to fish in or near Baie-Comeau that you have to get into the excitement. Hook, line and sinker!
Recreational fishing can be defined as fishing for pleasure or competition. The different forms of fishing include, but are not limited to: freshwater fishing, fly fishing, game fishing, and deep-sea fishing. Laws and regulations managing recreational fishing vary greatly. These commonly include permits (licenses), closed periods (seasons) where specific species are unavailable for harvest, restrictions on gear types, and quotas. For information on fishing requirements, including permits and seasons, you may wish to contact your state fish and wildlife agency.
Please note: Recreational saltwater fishing in nearshore waters, between zero and three miles from shore, is governed by state regulations, except in Florida and Texas where the state controls fishing out to nine miles. Saltwater fishing outside of state waters and for highly migratory species is set by the Regional Fishery Management Councils and by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). Information on state saltwater fishing regulations is provided by NOAA's Office of Sustainable Fisheries.
The Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) also provides a guide to fishing on National Wildlife Refuges. The fishing opportunities described in this guide represent virtually every type of sport fishing on the continent.
